Did you know that Numana is the city of sea turtles? Here's why

Hotel CasaDei

Numana is a coastal town on the central Adriatic coast in the province of Ancona, also known as the Lady of Conero. Among its many beauties, it has a specialty: for years, it has been committed to the safeguarding and rehabilitation of cetaceans that swim in the waters of Conero thanks to a collaboration program with the Cetacea Foundation for the rescue of sea turtles. Let's see what it is about.

Tarta Days: the days of the turtle

Every summer, Numana transforms into a natural stage for an exciting event: the "Tarta Day". A unique opportunity to witness the release into the sea of turtles cared for and rehabilitated by the Cetacea Foundation. An experience that captivates both adults and children, as evidenced by the enthusiastic comments of those who have had the fortune to experience it. Each Tarta Day is not just a symbolic event, but also a motorboat excursion to discover the picturesque beach of the Due Sorelle. Here, after learning valuable information about sea turtles and their history, attendees witness the highlight: the release of the turtles. A refreshing swim and return to port complete this special day.

A commitment to the safeguarding of turtles

Tarta Day is a reminder of the importance of protecting sea turtles, which are at risk of extinction due to various threats. Accidental catches, nautical traffic, pollution, and the disappearance of nesting sites severely challenge the survival of these animals. The turtles released during Tarta Day are indeed those saved during the winter, caught in fishing nets along the coasts of Marche and Emilia-Romagna. "Interaction with professional fishing is one of the main causes of mortality for sea turtles," explains Alice Pari from the Cetacea Foundation. "For this reason, we have launched awareness and training projects for fishermen, so they know how to intervene and provide first aid when necessary."

An encouraging number of turtles saved

Each year, associations in Marche recover between 70 and 100 turtles that need care. This is a considerable number for the space of the Mediterranean Sea, which is a very small sea. A figure that represents a concrete commitment to the protection of these animals and a sign of hope for their future. For this reason, the Tarta Days are an event open to all, an opportunity to live an unforgettable experience and contribute to the conservation of sea turtles. Book your excursion and let yourself be moved by this spectacle of nature!

How to participate in Tarta Days

If you are an animal lover and wish to deepen your knowledge of sea turtles, we recommend visiting the Recovery Center of the Cetacea Foundation in Riccione. An educational and touching experience that will allow you to get to know these fascinating reptiles and the effort for their conservation up close. For this reason, Numana has been christened the city of sea turtles: a place where nature, emotion, and commitment meet to create a unique and unforgettable experience.

When the next Tarta Days will be
