In the Marche region, no fewer than 42 sites will open their doors across 29 municipalities: a wonderful opportunity to set off on a journey, even just for a day, and be amazed by the beauty that is often right on our doorstep.
Because this is exactly what makes the FAI Autumn Days so special: they are not simply about visiting a monument, but about entering places and discovering stories that are not usually part of traditional tourist itineraries. Villas, historic buildings, churches, gardens, archaeological sites and landscapes tell the story of a region's identity and allow visitors to discover it from a different perspective.
The 2026 edition offers a particularly rich itinerary throughout the Marche, involving more than 350 volunteers, 50 schools and approximately 1,200 "Apprentice Guides". Visits are available in exchange for a voluntary contribution, which supports the activities of FAI, the Italian National Trust.
For those who love history, culture and local discoveries, the province of Pesaro and Urbino offers several interesting opportunities. In Fano, for example, visitors will be able to explore the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, while in Pesaro the program includes Villa Caprile and Palazzo Ducale. A little further away, you can discover the Mulini del Vallato in Fossombrone, the Pieve di Santo Stefano di Gaifa and the Torre Brombolona in Canavaccio di Urbino, or the Abbey of San Michele Arcangelo in Lamoli di Borgo Pace.
Villa Caprile is certainly one of the places worth adding to your itinerary: a historic residence surrounded by Italian-style gardens, also linked to the history of the Agricultural Institute of Pesaro and visited over the centuries by figures such as Stendhal and Casanova. A fascinating journey through history that demonstrates just how varied the region's heritage truly is.
If you feel like exploring a little further, there are plenty of possibilities. In Ascoli Piceno, the gardens and some rooms of Palazzo Saladini Pilastri will open to visitors; in Recanati, the Orto sul Colle dell'Infinito will once again take center stage; and in Tolentino, visitors can admire the Cappellone di San Nicola, which has recently undergone major restoration work. In Macerata, meanwhile, the FAI Autumn Days offer the opportunity to enter the former Bank of Italy buildings, which remained closed to the public for many years and have now been returned to the city thanks to restoration work carried out by the University of Macerata.
And for those who prefer nature, there is the Selva di Gallignano Botanical Garden in Ancona, dedicated to the study and conservation of plant biodiversity. In short, there really is something for everyone, even for a family day trip.
