Fano once again embraces the world of cinema with one of the most interesting cultural events of the Marche autumn. From November 17 to 21, 2026, the 38th edition of the Fano International Film Festival returns, an event dedicated to independent and arthouse cinema that over the years has attracted an increasingly wide audience, bringing together filmmakers, professionals, enthusiasts and curious visitors. And what better opportunity to discover Fano outside the summer season?
The Fano International Film Festival was created with a clear mission: to promote Italian and international independent cinema and to provide a platform above all for emerging filmmakers, new perspectives and artistic and linguistic experimentation. It is a festival that does not focus only on big names, but places ideas, stories and the talent of those shaping today's cinema at its heart.
The event is organized by the Fotovideocineclub of Fano, in collaboration with the Municipality of Fano and the Italian Federation of Film Clubs, under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture. Over the years, the Festival has attracted around 10,000 visitors over the course of the week and has welcomed numerous leading figures from Italian and international cinema.
One of the most interesting aspects of the Fano Film Festival is its openness to different forms of cinema. The competition is dedicated to short films made both on film, in Super 8, 16 mm and 35 mm formats, and digitally. There are no restrictions on theme, and each filmmaker may submit up to two works, generally with a maximum running time of 30 minutes.
Alongside the competition, there are sections dedicated to schools, meetings, special events and opportunities for further discussion. The Festival also aims to be a place for exchange and learning, involving students and teachers from all over Italy. There are also initiatives designed to highlight the city and its historical, artistic and cultural heritage.
The heart of the screenings is Masetti Cinema, at Via Don Bosco 12 in Fano. The Festival features public screenings with free admission, offering a wonderful opportunity for anyone who wants to discover the world of short films and explore stories, cinematic languages and filmmakers who may still be relatively unknown. The official awards ceremony for the 2026 edition is scheduled for Tuesday, November 17 at 9:15 pm. The competition presents several awards, ranging from the overall prize to categories dedicated to animation, documentaries, female directors, screenwriting, soundtracks, filmmakers from the Marche region and works produced by schools.
And after the cinema? Fano naturally invites you to continue your walk. Even in autumn, the historic center, the seafront and the atmosphere of the city offer a delightful experience, especially for those who decide to turn their visit to the Festival into a short weekend getaway.
